WSU Everett Website Overhaul: Revitalizing the Campus’s Digital Front Door

The Challenge

WSU Everett is a unique campus serving mostly first-generation and transfer students — but our website wasn’t keeping up. It was hard to navigate, didn’t tell the story of student access and success, and left prospective students piecing together information from scattered pages. In short, our “digital front door” wasn’t inviting people in — and it was holding back both enrollment growth and our ability to communicate what makes us different.

My Role

As Executive Director of Marketing & Communications, I led the vision and execution for a complete overhaul of the site — from the first conversation to the day it launched. I served as strategic lead, content architect, and creative director, ensuring the redesign spoke directly to our non-traditional student audience while staying true to the larger WSU brand.

What I Did

  • Led Discovery & Stakeholder Engagement – Conducted a full site audit and facilitated workshops with leadership, faculty, and student services to identify user needs and align on goals.

  • Built the Content & UX Strategy – Created a new site map and content plan that prioritized clarity, easy navigation, and real student stories to show what’s possible here.

  • Directed Content & Creative – Wrote and oversaw all new copy, set the tone for a consistent brand voice, and guided the visual design toward a mobile-first, WCAG-compliant experience.

  • Managed System-Wide Collaboration – Acted as project manager and liaison to the central WSU web team, ensuring we met technical requirements and delivered on time and on budget.

The Outcome

The new site transformed how people experience WSU Everett online. Navigation is intuitive, the storytelling is compelling, and prospective students can quickly see how they fit here. After launch, we saw a clear boost in engagement — including more requests for information and campus visit sign-ups. The project gave WSU Everett a modern, accessible, and authentic platform to drive enrollment and proudly tell our story within the WSU system.
